STEPHEN AUBUCHON: FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHER

Stephen Aubuchon, a Montreal native, resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the consummate fine art photographer having progressed from commercial photography to expressive art. The transition took place in 1998 when Aubuchon completed an arresting series of photos at the concentration camps in Poland. These deeply personal, first-person viewpoints brought him great satisfaction as well as awards and exhibits and lead to his complete abandonment of the commercial work. Today he is consumed with his interpretations of subjects ranging from the figure, to the landscape to the sea.

STEPHEN AUBUCHON: DANCERS IN MOTION

In recent years Stephen Aubuchon has concentrated on photographing the figure in action, primarily dancers in motion. He has traveled the country to work with dance companies and individual dancers, and even choreographed his own movement pieces; all with an eye towards the still image. But his photographs are anything but still; black and white or color, they virtually swirl off the page.

His alternate focus is on sweeping landscapes, buildings, and sculptural figures that project the illusion of watercolor paintings. Stephen's photographs are his own, unique creations from lens to completed print. He determines the composition, textural character, the size, the developing, the coloration and he does his own mounting. Stephen Aubuchon has had many solo exhibits and participated in numerous group shows in and around Raleigh, North Carolina. He has also lectured at the North Carolina Museum of Art, North Carolina State University and the Raleigh-Cary Jewish Federation and in the local high schools.
