KIM ELLEN KAUFFMAN: CAMERALESS FILMLESS ART PHOTOGRAPHY

Kim Ellen Kaufman creates masterful collages using digital techniques. She uses her unique and effective approach to create botanical photo prints from multiple scans of original and familiar material. Kauffman's art has evolved from both her work as a photographer and from her interest in gardening, with its color, texture, rhythm and drama. On her recent work, Kauffman says, “It is a different expression of the same dialogue about my place in the natural world.” See EXAMPLES.

KIM ELLEN KAUFFMAN: SUBJECTS REVEALED

Kim Ellen Kaufman is directly recording flowers, seed packs and leaves found in nature on a flatbed scanner, layering multiple images, embellishing areas and adding colors using special photo manipulation software, then processed with a lightjet printer to creat high quality, archival prints. This allows her to employ botanical materials from different seasons and in different stages of growth and deterioration with bird feathers, metal turnings, window screen, aluminum honeycomb grid, mesh bags and human made objects mimicking organic and natural forms.
