Cindy%20Cave Works
Painter, pastel artist, muralist, and gallery owner Cindy Cave knew she wanted to be an artist from an early age. She grew up in both Williamsburg, Virginia and Orange, California where strong art programs and inspiring teachers set her on her path. Cindy majored in fine art at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC where she earned her BA in 1990. She spent her summers working as a pastel portrait artist at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.
Her art studies were heavily influenced by fresco painter Ben Long, who taught at Meredith, and also lead a semester abroad program in Paris that Cindy attended. While in France, Cindy studied portrait painting, life drawing, and painted plein aire landscapes in Paris, Caen, and Avignon. Whether it was seeing Old Master works in the museums, or learning how to grind pigments and create paint, every part of the trip left her wanting more. Following graduation, Cindy returned to Europe, but this time, settled in Florence, Italy. She committed herself to post-graduate studies at Studio Cecil Graves, while also experiencing Italian Art History firsthand in Florence, Rome, and Venice.
After returning from Europe, Cindy settled first in Virginia and then in Raleigh, NC. She has primarily pursued commission projects both large and small. Early work at Busch Gardens as a scenic painter and sculptor of amusement park rides lead to a string of residential and commercial mural projects. These included wall murals for Michael Dean's Restaurant and Vinnie's Steakhouse, both in Raleigh, as well as Kid's Kingdom, Children's PlayGround, in Clayton, NC. In addition, her mural work was featured in the Raleigh Parade of Homes, and Cindy was commissioned to paint a portrait Of Retired Duke University Wrestling Coach Harvey, now in the University’s collection.
Cindy and her husband Adam own Adam Cave Fine Art, a downtown Raleigh fine art gallery featuring the work of over 25 artists.
