EDUCATION

Bachelor of Arts in Education. University of Central Oklahoma, 1966

Master of Fine Arts. University Of Oklahoma, 1973. Printmaking and Painting.

Post Graduate work in printmaking and drawing, 1974 – 1975.

Participated in the summer workshop on Printmaking (wood-block printing). Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Deer Isle Maine. 2003.

Studied at the Tamarind Institutes Summer Workshop for professionals and teachers in the techniques necessary for successful printing with aluminum plates. This was a four-week workshop which included the theory and chemistry of metal plate lithography, drawing techniques and materials, processing and editioning. Color theory and multiple runs were also taught. July 8-August 2, 1996.


HONORS AND AWARDS

Appointed to Professor Emeritus, March 2, 2006.
Received the Special Recognition Award for service to the university and the regional community. May 9, 2003.
Received the Adolph Dial Faculty Award for creative work. Presented by Pembroke State University (University of North Carolina at Pembroke). 1992.


PUBLICATIONS

Commission granted by the Fayetteville Museum of Art, Fayetteville, North Carolina. An edition of 175 lithographs for the donors of the Museum.

“Boxed-In”, nineteen poems and five etching, by Gar Bethel and Ralph Steeds. (A limited edition, hand bound book containing five hand printed etchings in each copy.)

Designed the book cover for “Small Wonder,” a collection of poems by Gar Bethel. The book was published by Point Rider Press, at The University of Oklahoma, Norman Oklahoma.

“A Traveling Circus”, a book of poems by Gar Bethel, with the cover art and containing five hand pulled lithographs by Ralph Steeds.
